Burning Guidelines
Kuna Fire District Burning Guidelines
Kuna Fire District no longer requires a permit for open burning. However, rules and regulations still apply, and open burning is NEVER allowed on BLM land.
The Idaho Department of Lands requires Idaho residents living outside city limits to obtain a fire safety burn permit. Residents who plan to burn for any reason (including crop residue but excluding recreational campfires) between May 10th and October 20th can obtain a permit online at BurnPermits.Idaho.Gov.
Please visit the Idaho Department of Air Quality or call 208-373-0313 prior to igniting any burn.
It is legal to burn:
- Weeds controlling irrigation ditches or canals, along fence lines, or to alleviate a fire hazard
- Vegetation debris - garden trimmings with branches no more than 1/2 inch in diameter, dry leaves, etc.
it is illegal to burn:
- Grass clippings
- Garbage
- Plastic
- Dead animals
- Roofing materials including paper or other asbestos material
- Toxic waste
- Wet or green vegetation
- Tires or rubber materials
- Petroleum products
- Lumber
- Any material that emits large volumes of smoke, particles, odors, or toxic contaminants
The following conditions must be met prior to igniting any open burn:
- Igniting must occur between the hours of sunrise and sunset
- No fires shall be allowed to smolder overnight
- Resident/landowner or competent representative shall be in constant attendance until fire is extinguished
- Burning is prohibited whenever the air quality index for the Treasure Valley, as determined by the Department of Environmental Quality, reaches 60 or higher for any pollutant. It is the responsibility of the resident/landowner to determine the level of the air quality index prior to igniting open burning.
- Resident/landowner or competent representative shall have available firefighting equipment such as sacks, buckets, shovels, pitchforks, garden hoses, and water supply.
